Asphalt Shingle Roofing in Signal Hill, Installed With Care
We install asphalt shingle roofs from the deck up: tear-off, new underlayment, fresh flashing and shingles nailed to the maker's pattern. You get a plain account of what your roof needs, what drives the price and which shingle fits your home.

When a Shingle Roof Is the Right Choice
Asphalt shingles cover more homes than any other material for good reasons. They suit most sloped roofs, weigh far less than tile, come in a wide range of colors and cost less to install. Modern architectural shingles are laminated in two layers, which gives a deeper shadow line and better wind resistance than the flat three-tab style many older roofs still carry.
Shingles are not right for every roof. Very low slopes need a flat roofing system, and some homes were framed for tile. If your roof is a better fit for something else, we will tell you that on the first visit.
Our answer starts with what we find on your roof. Strong sun is hard on shingles here, drying the asphalt and loosening the granules that shield it, so we look at age, granule loss and the decking before recommending anything.
What Comes With Your New Shingle Roof
Full strip down to the sheathing
We remove every shingle and the worn felt under it until the boards are bare. Any soft or delaminated sheathing is easy to spot and gets fixed instead of covered over.
Decking replaced where needed
We swap out damaged plywood or old plank sheathing so the new shingles are nailed into a flat, solid surface. You see photos of everything we replace.
Synthetic underlayment and edge metal
Synthetic underlayment covers the entire deck, with drip edge along the eaves and rakes and a starter course that lets the first row seal correctly.
Fresh flashing, boots and vents
We install step flashing along walls, new pipe boots and ridge or roof vents sized for your attic. Worn boots and old flashing cause more shingle-roof leaks than the shingles do.
Built to the manufacturer's specs
As a GAF Certified Contractor, we follow the manufacturer's written instructions for nailing, sealing and venting every roof rather than working from habit.
Permit and a clean site
We obtain the reroof permit, meet with the inspector and run a magnet over the yard and driveway before leaving.
When Shingles Are Wearing Out
Grit collecting in gutters
Sandy material piling up at the downspouts tells you the shingles' protective surface is coming off. Once the asphalt is exposed, the sun ages it fast.
Edges that curl or cup
When corners lift or the middle sags, the shingle has dried out, and the wind can grab it and pull it free.
Cracked or missing tabs
Dry shingles split along the nail line. A few gone may be a roof repair, but cracking across the roof suggests replacement.
Ceiling stains
Water marks after the winter rains often come from flashing or a worn pipe boot. We track down the source before we bring up a new roof.
Spongy spots when walked on
If the roof flexes underfoot, the decking beneath is usually wet or rotting.
The Steps of a Shingle Roof Job
- 1
Inspection and estimate
A member of our team climbs the roof, checks the attic when it is reachable and photographs the shingles, flashing and vents. Then you receive a free written estimate that lists each part of the work separately.
- 2
Picking your shingle
We show you samples and discuss color, profile and how each holds up to heat. We also check whether California's energy code requires a cool-rated shingle for your reroof.
- 3
Protection and tear-off
We tarp the plantings and park the trash bin near the roof edge. The old roof is removed one section at a time, so your home is never open overnight.
- 4
Install and city inspection
Underlayment goes down first, then flashing, shingles and ridge. Most homes take one to three days, followed by the city inspection.
- 5
Walk-through together
We go over the roof and yard with you, show you the new details and leave everything clean.
What Changes the Cost of a Shingle Roof
We price each shingle roof from its own measurements and condition. These factors shift the total the most. Financing is available through Service Finance Company, subject to credit approval.
- Size and slope
- Cost tracks square footage, and a steep roof takes longer and needs more safety equipment.
- How many layers come off
- Two old layers take more time to remove and haul off than a single one.
- State of the decking
- Rotted or delaminated sheathing must be replaced. Its full extent only shows once the old roof is removed, so we set a per-sheet price in writing beforehand.
- Shingle type and roof features
- Architectural, designer and cool-rated shingles are priced differently, and chimneys, skylights and valleys add flashing work.
Shingle Roof Questions We Hear
Something not covered here? (562) 662-7493
Can new shingles go over the old layer?
Code often permits a second layer, but we seldom advise it. An overlay covers up the decking, adds weight and can cut the life of the new shingles. Tearing off costs more at the start and leaves you with a roof you can count on.
What lifespan should I expect from shingles here?
That depends on the shingle, the attic ventilation and how much sun hits the roof. A badly vented attic cooks shingles from underneath, so every estimate includes an airflow check and a plain answer on what to expect.
Does a dark shingle heat up the house?
Dark colors take in more heat. Cool-rated shingles bounce back more sunlight and come in many shades, so you can have the look you like with less heat getting into the attic.
Must someone be home during the work?
Not required, but we want to be able to call you. Tear-off is noisy for a few hours, and a clear driveway helps with the trash bin and material drop-off. Each evening we tell you where the job stands and what comes next.
A storm damaged my roof. Can you help with my insurance?
Yes. We work directly with your insurance claim, supplying photos and a written scope. Your adjuster decides on coverage, and we walk you through each step.
